How to Balance Study and Part-time Work

Are you worried about your tuition or living expenses but also doubt whether you can balance study and part-time work? Well, actually, you are not alone. There are lots of students who need to take part-time jobs to support themselves while they study on campus. Meanwhile, they have to juggle among assignments, group discussions, as well as endless exams. Due to loads of things to be done, they usually feel stressed. Striking a balance between study and part-time work can be overwhelming. However, it can be achieved with some planning. The following three tips show you how to balance your study and part-time work.

First of all, calculate your monthly expenses and avoid taking too many part-time jobs to earn money. Some students tend to take two or three part-time jobs in a week  because they would like to save more money for their student loans. However, it may result in a lack of sleep or study time for students and thus bungle their academic performance. Therefore, I recommend that you do not overwork and only earn the amount of money which can cover your monthly expenses. By doing so, you can use your time to study, prepare for exams, and do your assignments. If you are still worried about your student loans, you can apply for a grant or scholarship.

Second, create a timetable and follow it. Most importantly, do not put things off. Try to set up your timetable by adding everything such as class time, study time, deadlines, and activities, which can help you know when your free time is. Therefore, you can schedule your work time based on this calendar. Moreover, never procrastinate your assignments until last minutes. If it is difficult to finish a certain assignment at once, you can break it down into small steps. By following your timetable and completing each assignment on time, you would feel less stressed.

Last but not the least, you need to learn how to manage stress. Even though you create your own timetable and follow it well, you may still not be able to catch up every classes. Besides, working and studying at the same time can be difficult to some extent; thus, you would feel agitated. Under such circumstance, it is suggested that students do some exercises such as yoga or meditation, which helps build physical and mental health.

In short, by following those three tips above, that is: calculate your monthly expenses and avoid taking too many part-time jobs, create a timetable and learn how to manage your stress, you can strike a healthy balance between study and part-time work. Once you balance your study and work successfully, you can earn your allowance and study happily.
