Teaching at Used Bookstore

Before I share my teaching experience with you, let me explain the reason why I “teach” in advance. I am literally have no idea as to what I can do after graduating from college, in fact, I have no dream. Nevertheless, I still try my best to enrich my own life: I double major in Department of Political Science, go to movie club, and take part in lots of activities held by our department, like graduation play and summer camp. Though I join as many activities as I can, I still feel confused about what kind of work I can do in the future. Therefore, I decided to enroll in a course, which aims to make time for teaching children from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at a used bookstore. Since some of my classmates in DFLL want to be teachers someday, I would like to give it a try as well.

To my surprise, teaching children is an extremely interesting and exciting thing! Though some of the children are very naughty and wayward, they are still willing to bare their souls to me as long as I play with them before they start to do their homework. They are so lovely. I need to teach two fourth-grade girls, and their names are Yi Chun and Yu Xin. Yu Xin is a little chatterbox, and it seems that she can talk 24 hours a day as if she does not need to sleep. In addition, Yu Xin is good at math. She can do her math homework alone without my help; however, the thing is, I am really poor at math so she has to do her math homework all by herself. On the contrary, Yi Chun is very quiet, and she usually finishes her homework at school. Therefore, all I can do is to review her homework.

It is definitely a precious and unforgettable experience in my life, because all of those children are adorable and sweet. Even though they would become little rascals sometimes, most of them will still finish their homework before they go back home. However, Yu Xin is an exception. When she refuses to do her homework, I would play with her for a while. “That’s a quid pro quo,” said Yu Xin. All in all, I feel so happy while teaching children, and perhaps I will keep teaching them in the next semester.
